The room holds the scent of dried plum,

left open since yesterday.

When my mind is filled with "sourness,"

everything seems to lead back to it.

Today’s lemon pound cake lying on the plate,

like me, quiet in sleep.

I could only finish half a day,

its burnt lemon syrup too sharp.

Crumbs swept into the sink.

Scent is smell and flavor entwined,

mouth and nose so close,

whispering all day long.

In February's cold air,

I wake, day after day,

eating the same food,

living in the familiar.

I hope for nothing to change.

This room, filled with umbrellas,

holds a scent

perhaps dried plum,

perhaps wilting flowers.
